Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Re: Worst Concert You've Been To?

Dylan in 1989 in Norfolk (when G.E. Smith was his guitar player) was truly awful. The crowd sat the entire night so rather than be a nuisance, my girlfriend and I went to the very top of the balcony to at least try to dance a bit to the more "rockin'" songs. I ingested something right before the show on a piece of paper that regretted mightily. Not an hour into the show, I'm snookered, the band is interminable, and this guy about six rows down the balcony charges my way. It was really dark and hard to see but he throttles my neck lifting me off the ground and back into the exit doors. Needless to say, I was in shock and pretty damn terrified. My girlfriend is wailing at him, he let's go and returns to his seat like nothing happened. We were too cooked to leave so we just stayed out in the lobby until some police officers came to talk to us to see if I was alright based on a report they were given by the staff. The music coming from inside the venue is now just plain menacing. The cops ask me if I'd like to make a formal complaint. They were really cool, but the thought of actually detailing the incident in my state of mind was just impossible. I said 'no thank you' and they were really surprised considering there were swollen and red finger marks on both sides of my neck. There were more nightmarish events to happen though we somehow made it home alive. I immediately came in and put on a very nice recording of the GD's 5/26/72. It felt healing. Truly. I've never paid to see Dylan since then. Fortunately the incident didn't generalize so much as sour me on all Dylan music. That would've been a minor tragedy.
